I just found out about Youth Lagoon, an american multi-instrumentalist named Trevor Powers. It’s an one-man dream-pop band based in Idaho, USA. It sounds fresh, nostalgic and imaginative at the same time. Trevor’s music is full of emotions and souvenirs of his mind trips. There’s also some magic and sadness in tracks such as ‘Posters‘, in which he sings, ‘You make real friends quickly, but not me‘. The whole record is quality, it features some bass lines, dreamy keyboards and a distant voice, creating a nice atmosphere. Perhaps his most remarkable lyrics are in ‘17‘, ‘When I was seventeen, my mother said to me, ‘don’t stop imagining, the day that you do is the day that you die‘; it’s one of the best songs of the album. ‘Montana‘ makes us want to relax with a cuppa, watching the sun going away.
Youth Lagoon released its début album, The Year of Hibernation, in September. It is amazing. It gives you a comfortable feeling when you listen to it, you understand what he puts into his music.
